Top 5 Do’s & Don’ts of Spray Tanning

There is a lot to know when it comes to spray tanning. After all, it's your body that's being tanned. But there seems to be an overwhelming amount of information available, which leaves many people wondering what to do and what not to do before their spray tan . Well, let us help you break it down into simple terms by offering our top 5 spray tan do's and don'ts.

DO shave or wax 24-28 hours before your appt. Doing this can result in having your legs not developing properly.

DON’T shower right before you appointment. Showering should be done at least 4 hours prior to the spray tan appt to allow the clients pH levels to neutralize. Ideally plan on showering 12-24 hours before.

DO drink lots of fluids and stay as moisturized as possible the days prior to your appointment. The more hydrated the skin, the better. Don’t worry though, sometimes our skin just won’t budge no matter how many times we apply lotion. If this is the case, we recommend our “The Hydration” service.

DON’T use any Dove, Dial or Bath & Body Works products before your spray tan. These products can leave a residue resulting in an uneven tan and can create a barrier that the tan cannot penetrate through and may leave streaks.

DO Remove any old tan that may be remaining on the skin. Layering a new spray tans over an old one will only cause more issues. It is ideal to get it off as much as possible before returning for another session.

DON’T wearing tight fitting clothing such as leggings, sports bras or jeans. Putting these back on over a spray tan isn’t fun and will disrupt the solution resulting in an uneven tan.

DO stay as moisturized as possible throughout the life of your tan. This will help the longevity and the fade of process. We recommend 2 times a day.

DON’T plan on doing anything for your processing time. This is your time to sit back & let the tan do its magic. In the case an emergency, if you get wet DON’T PANIC all you need is a fluffy makeup brush. Lightly buff out any water mark in circular motions. We do offer custom touch up spray bottles in studio that are always great to have on hand in case this were to ever happen

DO get sprayed 2-3 days before event. It typically takes 24 hours for a tan to fully develop. During that time no products should be applied to the skin. This way you give yourself the proper amount of time to process for you big event.

DON’T wear makeup, deodorants or perfumes the day of your appointment. Deodorant can cause the armpits to turn green (no thanks), perfume can leave itty bitty spots all over and makeup acts as a barrier. You CAN take these off prior to your appointment with an oil free make up wipe.

We know how much you're looking forward to your spray tan, and we want nothing more than for it to be perfect. If you stick with these guidelines, you’ll have the PERFECT tan, every time.
